Navajo Rugs and Blankets

From the looms of Navajo weavers come some of the world's finest weavings. The transition from producing weavings for personal use to producing items for commerce was largely responsible for the development of the Navajo rug in the late 19th century. The advent of reservation trading posts, such as the famous Hubbell Trading Post encouraged this transition by creating market outlets for products that previously had circulated only in trade. Exposure to larger markets had a significant effect on the evolution of the art form. The most apparent example of this was the development of regional styles and patterns. Although they are no longer accurate indicators of a modern rug's geographic origin, the regional names such as Two Grey Hills, Wide Ruins, or Ganado still identify rugs of a particular style. While two Navajo rugs may be very similar, there are no two exactly alike….and that's part of the fun!

Our focus is on fine quality, antique weavings. Germantown blankets and Germantown samplers, Hubbell revival blankets, transitional rugs and transitional blankets, early Ganado, early Crystal, J.B. Moore, Red Mesa, Klagetoh, Two Grey Hills, saddle blankets and if you're looking for one – a late classic banded wearing blanket with indigo dyes and saxony wool. Please look at the variety of very cool and very beautiful weavings that we have available. And, please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We guaranty the authenticity of every item in our inventory.
